The Firm · Since 1998
A firm built on candor, not volume.
For nearly three decades we have stayed deliberately mid-sized, so every client works directly with a partner who knows their matter by heart.

Why clients stay
92%
of our clients come back to us for their next matter, and most of our new work arrives by referral.

Our story
Eleanor Hale and James Whitmore left a large firm with a simple idea: clients deserve the attention of the people they hire, not whoever happens to be free.
We started with two partners, one conference room and a handful of clients who followed us. Most of them are still with us, and many have sent us their children, colleagues and companies since.
We have grown carefully, adding practices only when we could staff them with people we would trust with our own affairs. That discipline is why we can still promise a partner on every matter.

What we stand for
Four principles we won’t trade away.
They shape who we hire, which matters we take on and how we speak to every client.
i.

Candor
We tell you what we think, including when it isn’t what you hoped to hear.
ii.

Ownership
A named partner leads every matter and answers for the result.
iii.

Discretion
Your affairs stay private. Many of our best results never make the news.
iv.

Preparation
We do the reading, the research and the rehearsal so you never face surprises.
